Etsy fee rates as verified on 9 August 2026. Rates change and vary by country — confirm against Etsy’s Fees & Payments Policy before pricing. This tool is an estimate, not tax or accounting advice, and excludes sales tax and VAT, which Etsy usually collects and remits separately.

You can’t lower Etsy’s fees. You can raise what each visitor is worth.

Etsy’s cut is fixed — roughly 11% plus $0.45 on every US sale, whatever you do. The two things still in your control are how many buyers find your listing and how many of them actually buy. That is exactly what we build tools for, and there’s a free plan to test them on your own listings.

Using it as an Etsy profit calculator

Most fee tools stop at what Etsy takes. The two cost fields above — what the item costs you to make and what shipping actually costs you — are what turn this into a true Etsy profit calculator, because a sale can clear every fee and still lose money once materials and postage come out.

The target profit margin field solves the problem in reverse. Instead of guessing a price and discovering the margin afterwards, set the margin you need and it returns the item price that delivers it after every fee. That is the difference between pricing deliberately and pricing hopefully.

Why the number surprises people

Etsy’s fees are easy to underestimate because they arrive in pieces: a listing fee, a percentage of the sale, a payment processing cut, and for many sellers a regulatory fee on top. Add offsite ads and the total can pass 20% of what the buyer paid.

What Etsy charges in 2026

Five fees can land on a single order. Three of them apply to almost every sale, and two are conditional.

FeeWhat it applies toRate
Listing feeEach listing you publish, renewed every four months or when it sells$0.20
Transaction feeItem price + shipping + gift wrap + personalization6.5%
Payment processingThe full amount the buyer pays; rate depends on your country3–4% + flat
Regulatory operating feeSame base as the transaction fee; certain countries only0.29–1.97%
Offsite adsOnly orders that came from an ad Etsy ran off-platform12% or 15%

The one that surprises people most is that Etsy charges its percentage on shipping too. If you charge $8 postage, Etsy takes its 6.5% and its processing cut from that $8 as well — so “free shipping” built into the item price is not automatically the cheaper option, it just moves where the money sits.

A worked example

A US seller sells a $30 item with $5 shipping. The buyer pays $35.

  • Listing fee — $0.20

Flat, regardless of the sale size.

  • Transaction fee — $2.28

6.5% of the full $35, shipping included.

  • Payment processing — $1.30

3% of $35 plus the $0.25 flat charge.

  • Total Etsy fees — $3.78

That is 10.8% of what the buyer paid, leaving a net payout of $31.22.

Now subtract $8 of materials and $6 of real postage and the profit is $17.22. If that same order had come through an offsite ad at 15%, another $5.25 would come off and profit would fall to $11.97 — a 30% cut to your margin from one fee most sellers never model.

Payment processing rates by country

Payment processing is the fee that varies most, because it depends on where your bank account is. These are the commonly published rates; verify yours in your Etsy Payment account, and override them in the calculator’s Edit the fee rates panel if they differ.

CountryProcessing feeRegulatory fee

Several regulatory rates changed on 22 June 2026 — the UK moved from 0.32% to 0.48%, France from 0.47% to 1.14%, and Hungary gained a new 1.97% fee. If you last checked your margins before that date, they are out of date.

Six ways to keep more of each sale

  • Price for the fee, not around it

Roughly 11% plus $0.45 leaves your account on every US sale before you have paid for a single material. Set your target margin in the calculator above and let it tell you the price that actually delivers it.

  • Stop losing money on postage

Charging $5 for shipping that costs you $6 is a $1 loss per order plus Etsy’s cut of the $5. Weigh your packed items once and price shipping from real numbers.

  • Decide about offsite ads deliberately

Under $10,000 in the last 365 days you can opt out, and at 15% it is worth calculating whether those orders are profitable. Above $10,000 you cannot opt out, so the only lever left is pricing the fee in.

  • Raise conversion instead of traffic

Fees are a fixed percentage; conversion is not. A listing that converts better earns more per visitor at exactly the same fee load. Our Etsy listing checker scores an existing listing and shows what is holding it back.

  • Get found without paying for it

Organic Etsy search costs nothing per sale. Better tags and titles shift traffic away from ads you pay a percentage on — start with the Etsy tag generator and the title generator, or read the guide to Etsy SEO tools.

  • Sell more per order

The $0.20 listing fee and the flat processing charge are per order, not per item. A larger average order spreads those fixed costs thinner. Bundles and quantity discounts genuinely improve your effective fee rate.

Frequently asked questions

How much does Etsy take per sale?

For a US seller: $0.20 listing, 6.5% transaction and 3% + $0.25 processing. On a $30 item with $5 shipping that is about $3.78, or roughly 11% of what the buyer paid. Sellers elsewhere pay different processing rates and may owe a regulatory operating fee, and any order from an offsite ad carries a further 12% or 15%.

Does Etsy charge fees on shipping?

Yes. The transaction fee, the payment processing fee and the regulatory operating fee are all calculated on the total the buyer pays, which includes shipping, gift wrapping and personalization. Only the flat listing fee is unaffected.

Can I opt out of the offsite ads fee?

Only if your shop made under $10,000 in the past 365 days — then it is 15% and you can switch it off in your shop settings. At $10,000 or more the rate drops to 12% but becomes mandatory. Either way it applies only to orders Etsy attributes to an offsite ad.

What is the regulatory operating fee?

A percentage Etsy charges sellers in certain countries to cover local digital services taxes and compliance costs. It uses the same base as the transaction fee — item price plus shipping. US sellers are not charged it, and several country rates rose on 22 June 2026.

Is this calculator really free?

Yes. No signup, no email, no account. The calculation runs entirely in your browser and none of your numbers are sent to us or stored.

Does it include VAT or sales tax?

No. Etsy generally collects and remits sales tax and VAT on your behalf, so those amounts pass through rather than coming out of your margin. Your own income tax is separate and depends on your country — talk to an accountant.

Once you know your numbers

A fee calculator tells you what a sale is worth. Getting more of them is the other half. Our Etsy seller tools handle the parts that scale badly by hand — tags, titles, descriptions and listing videos — and there is a free plan, so you can test the maths above against real listings before paying anything. If you want the strategy first, the Etsy selling tips guide is a good place to start.
