Every way to bring buyers to an Etsy shop, what each one costs, and the order to try them in. Most of them are free. The two that are not are the ones sellers usually start with.
Promotion multiplies whatever your listings already do. A listing that converts 3% of its visitors turns 1,000 extra visitors into about 30 orders; one that converts 0.5% turns the same traffic into five, and you paid for the other 995. So check the listing first. If shoppers visit but do not buy, fix that before you send anyone else to it - the free Etsy listing checker names what to change.
Etsy Ads put your listings in paid spots in Etsy search results and elsewhere on Etsy. You set a daily budget, from $1 a day, and pay when a shopper clicks. Etsy chooses which listings to show unless you pick them yourself, and you can pause or change the budget at any time. Ad fees stop while your shop is in vacation mode.
Etsy Ads work best on listings that already sell without them, because the ad only buys the click. Start small, with a handful of your strongest listings and one question you want answered, and read the result against your margin rather than against the number of clicks. How to test Etsy Ads sets out a routine for that.
Offsite Ads are the ones Etsy runs for you on Google, Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest and other sites. There is no upfront cost. Instead, when a shopper clicks one of those ads and buys from you within 30 days, Etsy charges a fee on that order:
Whether to stay in is a margin question. On a low-priced item with a thin margin, a 15% fee can wipe out the profit on that order. Put a typical sale through the Etsy fee calculator with the offsite ads box ticked before you decide.
Pinterest is the best free channel for most Etsy shops, because it behaves like a search engine rather than a feed. A pin can keep bringing visits for months, where an Instagram post is mostly finished within a day or two. Pin every listing to boards named the way buyers search, with a clear title and description on each pin, and keep adding new pins rather than repinning old ones. Pinterest for Etsy sellers covers it in more depth, and Pinterest automation can publish your listings on a schedule.
These reward short video far more than photos. You do not need to film anything new to start: a listing video built from the photos already on the listing is enough to post, and it works on Etsy itself as well. The free Etsy video maker builds one from a listing URL. Post consistently, show the product being used or made, and link to the listing rather than to the shop's front page.
Etsy's own pages compete for your product in Google, but an article that answers a buyer's question - how to choose, how to use, what to pair it with - can rank on its own and send traffic that no other seller shares. It is the slowest channel here and the one that lasts longest. The Product Article Creator writes articles like this for your listings.
Every listing and your shop have a Share button. When a buyer clicks a link you shared from outside Etsy and buys within 30 days, Etsy's Share & Save program refunds 4% of that order’s value against your fees. On a standard 6.5% transaction fee, that takes most of it back. Links in social posts, email and blog posts count; links sent in Etsy messages or placed in your own listing descriptions do not. It turns the links you already post into a discount on every order they bring.
Etsy lets you run shop-wide or listing sales, create coupon codes, and send targeted offers to shoppers who favourited an item or left it in their basket. A sale also adds a badge to your listings in search. Discounts cost you margin on every order, including the ones you would have made anyway, so work out your floor price first and keep sales to real reasons: a season, a launch, clearing old stock.

Pin every listing to Pinterest, which works like a search engine and keeps sending visits for months. Post short listing videos on Instagram, TikTok and Facebook. Share your listings from outside Etsy with the Share button: Etsy's Share & Save program refunds 4% of the order value against your fees when a buyer purchases within 30 days of clicking your link. And make sure each listing converts before you send traffic to it.
They can be, on listings that already sell without them. Etsy Ads buy clicks, not orders, so a listing that does not convert simply spends the budget proving that. Start from $1 a day on a few strong listings, and judge the result against your margin rather than the number of clicks.
Offsite Ads are ads Etsy runs for your listings on sites such as Google, Facebook and Pinterest. There is no upfront cost, but if a shopper clicks one and buys within 30 days, Etsy charges 15% of that order, or 12% for shops that made $10,000 or more in the past year, capped at $100 per order. Shops under $10,000 can opt out; shops above it cannot.
Not directly, as far as Etsy has said: outside visits are not a published ranking factor. What helps is what those visits produce. Sales and favourites from social traffic add to the recent engagement Etsy search does lean on, so a listing that converts outside traffic tends to benefit in search as well.
Occasionally, and for a reason. A sale adds a badge in search and targeted offers can win back shoppers who favourited an item, but every discount also applies to orders you would have made anyway. Work out your floor price first, then keep sales to seasons, launches and clearing old stock.
